This 21 days big tour offers an overview of the country, through an original program off the beaten path in the great western Mongol. For 3 weeks you will discover the wild beauty of Mongolia uncrowded and authentic. Browsing tracks northern border with Russia in a Siberian atmosphere and experience the culture and hospitality of the Kazakh people entering the westernmost area of the country.

You progress by vehicle and on foot in the heart of exceptions landscapes dormant volcanoes, huge sparkling lake Khövsgöl, vast almost bare desert steppe, taiga and wooded valleys, snowy peaks of the massif spectacular Altai. On this trip you will appreciate above all the deep nature it provides a unique setting.

Day 1Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar the capital city of Mongolia. Transfer to your hotel. The city tour of Ulaanbaatar takes you through some of the principal sights of this unique city. You visit the Gandan Monastery, housing a 26 meter high gilded statue of the Buddha. Your tour also takes you to the Chinggis Khan monument on the Chinggis Khan square and the Museum of National History. In the evening, you will enjoy a Mongolian folk Music and Dance Performance. Then welcome lunch in a Mongolian restaurant.

Day 2Ulaanbaatar – Amarbayasgalant monastery

After blessing around the “ovoo” we start our big tour. Heading north and discovery of the first landscapes of steppes. Visit the magnificent Amarbayasgalant monastery or the “Monastery of Tranquil Felicity”, architectural treasure of the eighteenth century with chinese influences.

Day 3Amarbayasgalant monastery – Uran Togoo Volcano

Road through the typical landscapes of the Bulgan province, rich in rivers, forest steppes, fertile pastures and many cattle. Ability to climb up to the crater, the peak over 1686 m form a circle-shaped ridge about 500 – 600 m in diameter. A surprise awaits you!

Day 4Uran Togoo Volcano – The Selenge River Valley

Last step before joining the Lake Khovsgol. Progression in the heart of the beautiful valley of the Selenge river valley, whose banks are covered with sparse forest.

Day 5 The Selenge River Valley – Lake Khovsgol

Today after breakfast drive to Moron, capital of Khovsgol province and transition to market. The famous Lake Khovsgol finally presents to you on arrival at the village of Khatgal. Its crystal clear water is so pure that you can drink it. The reflections of the snowy peaks stand out on the lake and offer beautiful colors.

Day 6Lake Khovsgol

Arrive the camp and take a rest after long drive. Horse riding on the beach, between forests of pine and larch trees, in the middle of herds of yaks and sheep. At the edge of the lagoons are constructed wooden huts where lives farmers in the region.

Day 7-9Lake Khovsgol – Town of Khyargas

3-day route in the far north of the country along the mongolian-russian border to the west. Crossing 3 aimag.
You leave the taiga lake Khovsgol and progress in Moron valley along the river Delgermoron dotted with shrubs. Passage in Tsetserleg, pretty village of province.
Evolution in an environment of wooded steppes and bare mountains. You see the last mountains of northern massif Khangai the collar passage. You cross many camel herds.
Short crossing of the province of Zavkhan, one of the coldest regions of Mongolia. Your stopping in Tes: this picturesque village known for theirs horse racing performance during Naadam, the national Mongolian festival.

Day 10Khyargas – The Davaa’s family

We will entry in Uvs province, with the important hydrography.
Lunch on the shore of the largest salt lake in Mongolia, Khyargas Nuur. The area has an incredible variety of landscapes: high mountains, sand dunes and a rare fauna and flora.
Arrival in Ulaangom, town and capital of the province. Hot shower municipal baths: rustic but significant after 3 days of 4WD!
Walk in the local market with local colors and replenishment.
The evening reception with Davaa’s family, he is breeder and local trekking guide.

Day 11- Walking in the massif of Kharkhiraa Turgen

Trekking in the wild massif Kharkhiraa Turgen, overlooking the steppes. The high valleys of the massif are the domain of nomads who find excellent grazing during the summer.
Guided by Davaa, quietly begin your ascent. The road winds through a wide terrain and semi-desert between terraces, cliffs and rocky ledges, rocks and small streams.
Arrived around 3200 m above sea level, you get a wide view of the chain and the glaciers of Kharkhiraa (4037m) and Turgen (3965m) mountains with the eternal snows. Magnificent views of the sparkling glacial lakes.

Day 12Nomad encampment Davaa – Olgii

You leave Davaa and his family, and take the road west to Olgii. This city is the capital of Bayan–Olgii province, and most occidantale the country. This region largely occupied by high mountains Altai, several peaks exceeding 4,000 meters above sea level. We will meeting with kazakh families who predominantly inhabit in this area.

Day 13 One day in the Olgii

This day is spent leisurely in Olgii. Shower municipal baths. Visit the small town museum devoted to local flora and fauna, and the cooperative of Kazakh handicrafts crafted by women in the region.

Day 14Olgii – Nomad camp

Meet your local trekking guide. Browsing vehicle in the last kilometers separating you from the Mongolian-Russian-Chinese border. Approaching massif of Altai Tavan Bogd (Five Saints), which are including the 5 highest peaks: Mount Khuiten (4374 m), Mount Naraimdal (4202 m), Mount Narlag (4200 m), Mount Olgii (4100m) and Mount Malchin (3890m).
The local guide leads you to the camel keeper who will accompany you during the next 3 days of trekking.

Day 15Nomad camp – Base camp of Mount Malchin

Start trekking. Accompanied by pack camels that carry your bags and equipment, you walk (20-25km) through the tundra in the U-shaped valleys, glacial erosion characteristics. Facing you are required steep and majestic snow-capped mountains.

Day 16Climbing Mount Malchin (4037 m)

Get up early and take breakfast. Long climb on unstable scree field, non-technical and do not require specific hardware.
You walk in a spectacular setting of soaring peaks and glaciers. At the top, you find yourself at 4037 meters altitude, and the three countries border. Around you the amazing show of the 4 other peaks rising in the sky and a unique view of Russia.
Then descent to the camp.

Day 18Nomad camp – Shiveet Khairkhan mountain

You will find your vehicle. Short road following the Tsagaan river valley to the sacred Shiveet Khairkhan mountain. In the afternoon, you walk around and enjoy a final day of this beautiful and relaxing environment.

Day 19 Mount Shiveet – Olgii

Drive back to Olgii, where your local guide will leaves you.
Evening and night homestay

Day 20Olgii – Ulaanbaatar

Return flight to Ulaanbaatar. You will have an opportunity to shop at cashmere and souvenir shops.
Farewell dinner with your interpreter and driver in a Mongolian restaurant.
